Liquid Militia | Beach life on and off the water

Liquid Militia | Beach life on and off the water

A good time on and off the water on the West Coast with our crew. Beach, Babes, Beer, and Jet skis.

We recently took a little trip to da beach to kick it with the team and bunch of our friends/customers. Needless to say, it was a epic trip where we could all camp on the beach, gather together for a nice dinner, and let the after party roll deep into the night. Sit back and see why we love the people who support the brad and the wild times we have.

Cali to Virginia Beach for WaveDaze 2017 | Jake Bright

Wavedaze 2017 is in the books! This year was a lot of fun and it was so good to see so many familiar faces and make some new friends as well. This year brought people from around the country, even a few from other countries like Canada and Australia and for the first time in a few years I was representing for the whole west coast!

To kick my trip if I caught a red-eye from San Diego on Thursday night and showed up to the Norfolk airport Friday morning where I got picked up by my buddy Landon and rolled on the beach shortly after!

Friday had the best waves I saw for the weekend so after I sticker-ed up the Salty Investments ski with decals I got from LM Printshop I jumped right in and rode! Then we wrapped up on the beach and I went back to the hotel where I bunked up with Chris Grace and his pops the legend Joe Grace!

The spot to be Peabody’s

Each night we went out our dinners and parties were hosted at the newly renovated Peabodies nightclub and we had a shuttle service from the hotel to the club which is always a good time!

Saturday we had some better weather than the day before but the surf went flat on us and the contest was called off but that didn’t stop everyone from getting out on the water and having a good time anyway! After we all got off the water we kicked off the raffle which is hands down one of the best in the business, just to mention a few of the items for raffle were Liquid Militia clothing, Jet Renu cleaning products, Hydroturf gifts, Dasa intake manifold, etc and they even raffled of a brand new blue billet handle pole from KAVINCI! Saturday night was the grand reopening of Peabodies after the renovations so they had a live band come into play and the entire club was open which I thought was pretty rad and a huge improvement for them.

Sunday the weather was real nice and sunny and warm but still not much for waves so a big boat was paid to come through and throw a wake which was big enough for riders to launch off of! That night we had a nice meal at this Italian joint we go to every year and then everyone hung out at the hotel and mingled for the rest of the night! it was a bummer that Shawnski couldn’t make it out!

The crew | Just about to part ways.

Monday I slept in and then woke up and got breakfast with the boys! After that I said my goodbyes to everyone still leftover and then helped Dan the event organizer get all his stuff packed up and packed out. After that Dan and I met up with our buddy Landon and we headed to the shooting range where I got to look at and even shoot numerous different guns that are totally illegal back in Cali!

The best part was when I shot the gnarliest handgun I’ve ever shot the Desert Eagle 50 caliber handgun for the first time and it kicked like a horse!! After that Dan hooked me up with a ride to the airport and I began my journey back to SoCal!

Does this gun make me look like a bad ass?

I just want to send a special thanks to Krash Industries for getting me to the event and making sure I had a ski to ride! Salty investments for letting me barrow your ski! Jerimiah Donges for hauling the ski to and from the event! The Graces for always treating me like family and letting me stay with them! Dan, Jen and Landon for making sure I’m taken care of every time I come out! And to all my east coast friends and everyone who came out for the event and helped make it a good time for me and everyone involved! I feel super lucky to be part of such a rad sport and a part of the freeride fam who is always looking out for one another whether you know each other or not!

Hope to see you on the beach at the next one, cheers!

Now in its fifth year, the 2017 Yamaha New Zealand Festival of Freeride brings together the country’s best ‘free riders’ along with international participants, including 7 x World Champion Pierre Maixent from France along with two U.S. Liquid Militia riders Mark Gomez and Joey Morneault.

Joey Morneault first time attending the Daytona Freeride 2017

I will go back as long as I’m still riding skis. The Daytona Freeride will not disappoint.

This was my first year attending the Daytona Freeride and my first time attending an East Coast event. I had an absolute blast and I recommend that everyone goes to this event. I didn’t know what to expect on the other side of the country, so I packed my bags and caught an overnight flight hoping for the best. I arrived at the Daytona airport around noon and walked straight to the baggage claim. I grabbed my bag and looked to my right and spotted a Liquid Militia shirt.

I immediately walked over to the guy wearing the shirt and introduced myself. After meeting Mark Walker and talking for a few minutes he offered me a ride to the event in his rental car. I was STOKED to be in Daytona for only 5 minutes and I already organized a free ride to the event. On the way to the event I was chatting with one of the other guys in the car and it turns out that he lives only a few houses over from my cousin in Philadelphia, PA. Sometimes I can’t believe how small of a world it is.

We arrived at the host hotel after a quick lunch and shopping adventure. The weather was absolutely perfect I was able to wear shorts and sandals all weekend. After checking in, I met up with Nicholas Foederer to grab my rider pass which is a a necessity if you want to ride. The next step was to walk the beach to see if I could bum a ride on a ski. A few minutes later I got to take Michael Grasso’s super jet for a rip. The surf conditions were pretty fun and it was pretty warm outside. I got away with only wearing my wet suit bottoms, it was a nice change from the West Coast surf. After a nice riding session I met up with Mark and his friends for dinner.

I basically went out to dinner with a random group of people that I haven’t met before. Everyone was super nice and welcoming, I was immediately treated like part of their riding crew. I stayed up pretty late waiting for my roommate (Cookie Monster) to arrive, she ended up missing her flight and arrived much later than expected. Luckily I killed the time by talking about jet skis with Buck, Bryan, Cameron and others down at the hotel bar. We probably could have talked till the sun came up, but I eventually called it a night and crashed out.

New Friends!!

The next morning I woke up, grabbed breakfast, put on my sandals, and hit the beach. The beach was packed with awesome people and amazing skis. While walking down the beach I managed to hang out at the Skat-Trak booth with Michelle and Tom (Hot Products) for a bit. Michelle hooked me up with a sweet Skat-Trak hat and Tom gave me a Hot Products shirt for hanging out with them. They were giving out hats and shirts to tons of people that stopped by the booth. After hanging out at the booth for a bit I grabbed some lunch and walked the beach again. I spent countless hours meeting new people and enjoying the amazing weather. Towards the end of the day I suited up to ride some of my teammates skis. Mark Gomez and Brandon Lawlor were nice enough to let me take their skis for a ride in the beautiful Florida surf. While riding I witnessed Mark Gomez to be the first person to back flip a jet surf motorized surf board. It was crazy that guy can do anything LOL…

After some riding I went out to dinner with the same group from the night before. We decided to stay out a bit later and hit the club. We had a blast at the club that was conveniently located across the street from the hotel. On our way home we found a 24 hour pizza parlor, so we grabbed a quick snack before bed.

Joey suited up!

Joey suited up!

The following morning I was a bit sleep deprived, but it was totally worth it. I grabbed some breakfast and went down to the beach to watch the surf style event. My buddy Sean Starr was crushing it and ended up taking home first place! He was on fire all weekend. After watching Sean ride I got to experience the Cherry Popper event. The Cherry Popper is a contest for people to stick their first back flip. This event was priceless. There were so many awesome attempts and bails. I could have watched it all day. Eventually all of the contestants landed their flips. After the Cherry Popper I suited up and took Sean Starr’s ski for a ride. While riding his ski I witnessed Sean back flip one of the jet surf boards. I think Sean is determined to catch up to Mark’s accomplishments and he’s doing a great job of it. After my first ride I took a break and then went out again on Randy Lawlor’s ski. Randy’s ski was a monster with his massive engine. It wore me out pretty fast so I only had a short ride.

After the events closed down we got cleaned up and went to the Kona Tiki Bar for dinner. The bar was basically taken over by jet ski riders, it was such a cool experience to look around and see nothing but awesome people that share the same interest. After dinner we went back to the club and got a bit out of control. We had the times of our lives and ended up closing out the place. Immediately after the club we went back to the pizza shop for a late night snack. I swear the guy at the pizza place knew my name by the end of the weekend, we probably spent way too much time there.

The last day was the hardest part of the trip. Heading home from awesome events is always a bummer. After packing my bags I hopped in the car with Melissa and Michelle. We ate at a place called Steve’s diner. This diner was recommended to us by Jeff (Steve) Bolte. This diner had the best homemade food. Mark, Kaley, Andrew, Melissa, Michelle, Jeff, and I all talked about the future events that we plan to attend while we were eating. We all decided to come back to Daytona for 2018. This event was absolutely worth traveling for. It was such a nice break from the cold Las Vegas weather. I highly suggest this event to everyone. I will go back as long as I’m still riding skis. Daytona will not disappoint.

Tanner Thomas 2012 Jetski Tour Update

I’ve sure been busy these past few weeks, the last big event I did was the Blowsion Surf Slam up in Pacific City Oregon. Driving up there on tuesday before the competition I had some time to ride the surf and get aquainted. The Oregon surf is incredibly powerful and nasty. Last year as most of you know, my competition at surf slam was cut short by a failed backflip resulting in the loss of my new super jet and a rescue tow hook through my hand. This year my goal was to push hard with my surf riding and use what I have learned to ride safe but still impress the judges. I feel like I accomplished all of that this year. Unfortunately I only secured 5th place in the Amateur Freeride contest. With a huge Madonna flip, which I just learned the week before, I was able to place 3rd in the Big Air competition. All of my equipment ran amazing which is always a good weekend when you have no issues.

Tanner Thomas 2012 Blowsion Surf Slam Competitor

I felt good despite the cold weather and scary surf. The surf was between 6 and 15 foot all weekend, and so heavy. My super jet was brought to a private Blowsion photo shoot with two of Blowsion models and could be seen in calendars, parts catalogs, advertisement, ect. So there is lots to take away and be excited about of how the contest worked out this year and I have some new cool photos for a new poster. After surf slam I drove back down to central california here to TC Freeride headquarters and for the past week have been hitting the gym in the mornings and riding at a cool practice pond in the afternoons on my Rickter XFS.

Tanner Thomas Back flippin' in AM Freeride

I am totally focused on the upcoming World Finals in Lake Havasu City AZ Oct. 5th. I am practicing flat water freestyle, testing and tuning with my ski and preparing the best I can do put on a good show and see what is possible with just a few months experience in flat water with my Dasa racing powered Rickter XFS. Thank you for everyone who keeps believing in me. I am certainly putting the work in down here. Hope to see as many of you as I can in Havasu and everyone else on my trip back to Alaska towards the end of October.

Thanks!! – Tanner “Tanman” Thomas.

2012 Blowsion Surfslam Team Rider Results

Liquid Militia would like to thank Hydro Turf for making our trip a success having good people around us is always a plus. We would also like to thank Kyle at DASA for the ride to the airport legit. We would like to also thank Ronny & Ratti from ProRider Watercraft Magazine just for being super cool peeps to hang with and for keeping the sport going. Last but definitely not least we would like to thank all our team riders who attended this event we would not have gone if it was not for you guy’s Lot’s more pics and a sick ass VIDEO is still to come….

Zack Bright killing it this year at the Surf Slam. Zack took 2nd place in Pro Freeride against Freeride legend Taylor Curtis, When we asked zack about the contest conditions he said. It’s so hard to ride, if something comes up, then you hit it. Going out there with a plan of attack is just not happening, at all. With this slam win it puts Zack sitting in second place in the IFWA (International Freeride Watercraft Association) Would Tour in Points with one more stop to go BRAZIL!!

A few more memorable moments from Zack who’s always pushing the envelope. Zack kinda landed a backflip re-entry, the crowd was pumped!! “I tried a double backflip in the big air and went one and a half, and I stomped 2 flat spin 360 re-entrys on Monday. My progression keeps going.”

Mark Gomez took 5th place in Pro Freeride & 2nd in the Pro Ski Motosurf Race. Mark holding it down competing in all three events at the slam. 1. Freeride 2. Motosurf and 3. Big air keeping up with his tipple threat theme he has going on. We asked Mark how hard was it to compete in all three events “Well that’s what I like to do, I like to be involved in as much opportunity as possible why not? My #1 is Freeride I just cant get enough of it, but if there is a chance to do a motosurf race i’m in. All events I competed in the conditions were nasty but you just power threw it and make things happen.”

Cuong Son took 9th place in Pro Freeride. That’s a few notches up from last year. Cuong had some killer runs getting some huge air. When asked about the size of the waves Cuong had this to say “Some set’s in the back were huge you just have to time it right and go for it. I had a lot of fun and am happy with myself.”

Stanton High took 17th place in Pro Freeride. Stanton was on a fresh new Krash hull going into the slam. New ski plus not a lot of practice on the new hull sometimes does not let you perform to the level you know you are at. But on the upside Stanton had a blast and is looking forward to dialing in his new ski with all the classic Stanton style he brings. When we asked him how he felt on his new hull he said “I love it, it’s a great hull, looking forward to seeing what new things I can do on it.”

Tanner Thomas Amateur Freeride

Tanner Thomas took 5th place in Amateur Freeride. Tanner had a lot better luck this year than last year, no rescue hook through the hand and his ski did not get lost forever into the Pacific. Tanner’s fully back in action, and riding solid. When we asked what him what he had to say about the surf he said,The surf’s so powerful its unbelievable, I’m happy with what i did all around.
