2017 Blowsion Surf Slam is upon us and so is Jake Bright

Jake Bright will be competing in Pro Freeride this year at the 2017 Blowsion Surf Slam after missing a few years prior. He’s ready to send it.

It’s that time of year again and I’ll be making my way up to Pacific city Oregon for the Blowsion Surf Slam one of the most anticipated international jetski freeride contest of the year. It’s been a couple of years since I’ve been able to participate due to injuries and other reasons so I’m pretty pumped up about it! I’ll be competing in the Pro freeride contest as well as the Hydro-turf Big Air Showdown! It’s been a little bit since I’ve had the chance to compete in a IFWA contests and I am excited to get out there and shake it up, I’m looking forward to giving the boys on tour a run for their money.

Now if we rewind to Daytona Beach Florida back in January and the big air showdown where It came down to Tommy Scaccianoce (2015 Surf slam big air champ) and I for the top spot and he ended up edging me out after photo review! Tom is insane and was going massive that whole weekend so he deserved it but for real after just missing the win I’m deff gunning for that big air win! I’m just gonna send it!

Anyway I plan on going out there and giving it my all, and have a blast! I’m really loving my Krash Industries predator and when I ride it I really feel like i’m one with it, and I believe that shows in my riding, I’m landing all my tricks super smooth and a lot of the tricks are starting to feel like second nature! I’ve also been spending more time working on my surf riding lately so hopefully we have some good waves and I can try and tuck into some barrels and drag shoulder across some faces!
Jake Bright - Oceanside, CA

Jake Bright – Oceanside, CA

I’ve done a lot of growing and maturing  personally in the last few years and I believe that shows in my riding as well. If I could describe it I would say i’m more calculated which translates to a smoother more consistent flow in my riding. I’ve gotten better at reading waves and knowing how to attack the next set of them, I kind of look at a set of waves like a rhythm section and I’m trying to keep a good flow going though it!. So I’m doing my best to utilize every set to its full potential and make the most of each wave in the set. This is so crucial in a 5 min heat because you may only get one set of waves in the whole round.
Qualifying is Friday then its head to head battles all and Sunday with awards on the beach immediately after the riding is over. If your in the area or if you’ve got the opportunity to make it out this weekend come out and support an awesome event and a bunch of rad freeriders! Hope to see you all on the beach!
Cheers, Jake

Cali to Virginia Beach for WaveDaze 2017 | Jake Bright

Wavedaze 2017 is in the books! This year was a lot of fun and it was so good to see so many familiar faces and make some new friends as well. This year brought people from around the country, even a few from other countries like Canada and Australia and for the first time in a few years I was representing for the whole west coast!

To kick my trip if I caught a red-eye from San Diego on Thursday night and showed up to the Norfolk airport Friday morning where I got picked up by my buddy Landon and rolled on the beach shortly after!

Friday had the best waves I saw for the weekend so after I sticker-ed up the Salty Investments ski with decals I got from LM Printshop I jumped right in and rode! Then we wrapped up on the beach and I went back to the hotel where I bunked up with Chris Grace and his pops the legend Joe Grace!

This is a turn key jet ski priced at just 12k USD and yes this includes either a 50 Cal, Predator or Reaper with all of the new Kavinci components including the new KV 997, 148 pump, billet handle pole, etc, etc FOR MORE INFO PLEASE CONTACT ME AT:  thejakebright@gmail.com

The spot to be Peabody’s

Each night we went out our dinners and parties were hosted at the newly renovated Peabodies nightclub and we had a shuttle service from the hotel to the club which is always a good time!

Saturday we had some better weather than the day before but the surf went flat on us and the contest was called off but that didn’t stop everyone from getting out on the water and having a good time anyway! After we all got off the water we kicked off the raffle which is hands down one of the best in the business, just to mention a few of the items for raffle were Liquid Militia clothing, Jet Renu cleaning products, Hydroturf gifts, Dasa intake manifold, etc and they even raffled of a brand new blue billet handle pole from KAVINCI! Saturday night was the grand reopening of Peabodies after the renovations so they had a live band come into play and the entire club was open which I thought was pretty rad and a huge improvement for them.

Sunday the weather was real nice and sunny and warm but still not much for waves so a big boat was paid to come through and throw a wake which was big enough for riders to launch off of! That night we had a nice meal at this Italian joint we go to every year and then everyone hung out at the hotel and mingled for the rest of the night! it was a bummer that Shawnski couldn’t make it out!

The crew | Just about to part ways.

Monday I slept in and then woke up and got breakfast with the boys! After that I said my goodbyes to everyone still leftover and then helped Dan the event organizer get all his stuff packed up and packed out. After that Dan and I met up with our buddy Landon and we headed to the shooting range where I got to look at and even shoot numerous different guns that are totally illegal back in Cali!

The best part was when I shot the gnarliest handgun I’ve ever shot the Desert Eagle 50 caliber handgun for the first time and it kicked like a horse!! After that Dan hooked me up with a ride to the airport and I began my journey back to SoCal!

Does this gun make me look like a bad ass?

I just want to send a special thanks to Krash Industries for getting me to the event and making sure I had a ski to ride! Salty investments for letting me barrow your ski! Jerimiah Donges for hauling the ski to and from the event! The Graces for always treating me like family and letting me stay with them! Dan, Jen and Landon for making sure I’m taken care of every time I come out! And to all my east coast friends and everyone who came out for the event and helped make it a good time for me and everyone involved! I feel super lucky to be part of such a rad sport and a part of the freeride fam who is always looking out for one another whether you know each other or not!

Hope to see you on the beach at the next one, cheers!

Saturday, we woke up to really small surf, 30mph winds and even snow coming down on the beach but that didn’t stop all of the die hard jet skiers who were hitting the water to get wet. Riders started signing up for the Krash Nationals Freeride Contest! We kicked off the contest and had riders battling the crazy conditions as best as they could. I did the announcing for most of the contest and had a lot of fun laughing at my own bad jokes, cheering on the riders and keeping the event moving! We finished up the rookies, amateurs, masters and runabout class. We started the pro class Saturday which was the largest class full of the worlds top riders, and due to the conditions we decided to finish up with all the rest of the Pro rounds Sunday!

Then we did the raffle where they gave away all types of good stuff like LM T-shirts, Kavinci handle poles, flywheels, Ignitions, totes, motors you name it! We did the awards, congrats to all the riders who competed and who finished on top! And after that we hit the club for the annual after party at Peabody’s!

Sunday, the weather and waves were much better. We had an awesome time finishing up the pro contest. Unfortunately, I twisted my ankle a bit and took a loss for the weekend but I was able to walk it off and I’m only a little sore. So, now I’m determined to train harder and continue strength training my ankle! Big ups to Mick Anthony, Bruno Jacobs and Chris Grace respectively for taking out the pro class, you boys ripped it!

Update from Jake Bright after The 2016 Daytona Freeride:

Jake Bright Back in action 4Well I’m sitting on my flight back to Cali, The Daytona Freeride has come and gone already! It was good to get out to the Freeride this year, coming back from my injury for the first ride in 7 months made it even that much sweeter! We were set up on the beach all weekend under the big Krash Industries tent with all the new skis and products on display, available for demo rides. We even had the big man himself, Nick Barton out on the beach all weekend helping out and answering questions!

Friday, was a lot of fun. I hit the water for my first ride with the new hardware in my ankle and my new ski under my feet! I was super stoked, I was able to shred slashes and boost reentries with minimal pain. My new “Krash Predator” that was built by Zack Bright at Ruthless Unlimited proved to be a winning combo. I water tested it for the first time on Friday at the event and it performed flawlessly all weekend!

Jake’s fresh DASA engine.

The Dasa motor and carbs were set up perfectly, thanks to Kyle Kennedy. I never even had to turn a screw and of course all the brand new Kavinci, Blowsion, Cold fusion, and Skat-Trak parts helped bring it all together!

Friday night, we partied the night away at the host hotel ballroom with all the new skis on display and the DJ spinning!

Saturday, we rode all day. I loosened up a bit, even got upside down and started testing the ankle a little more. I held off on the surf contest since I didn’t want to press my luck and hurt myself the first weekend back. Big props, to Gomez (Mark Gomez), ZB (Zack Bright) and Ken Kupo on the podium spots and another shout-out to ZB for the sitdown shitshow win!

Jake Bright Back in actionSunday, was super stormy in the am. Later, it cleared up but the angry ocean stuck around with overhead slop that we hit it hard! Riding on Sunday felt good, I sent quite a few big airs and had some fun waves linking up multiple slashes and re-entries on each wave! I had a blast riding Sunday it felt amazing to send it again! No feeling compares to hang time!

All and all it was an awesome weekend and I’m so stoked I got to be a part of it! So good seeing all our easy coast friends, as well as a bunch of our international friends! Great way to kick off the year! Big thanks to Nick Foerderer for putting on a killer event and massive thanks to everyone who helped out this weekend. So many people always willing to lend a helping hand, i appreciated all of your help so much! Cheers! -JB

Jake Bright 2015 Rewind

We asked team rider Jake Bright for a 2015 rewind, here’s what he had to say:

6-11-2015-jake-bright-instagramThis year has been an exciting one for myself and my growing family to say the least. It started off with a bang, my fiance Meagan and I went down under for the first stop on the IFWA tour in Australia which ended up being one of the most epic trips of our lives. I made it all the way to the semi finals and possibly could have gone a little further but in the craziness of borrowing different skis to compete on I made the rookie mistake of forgetting to check the fuel before my final run against Abraham Ho. Nonetheless, I had the trip of a life time traveling around Australia with my lady, hanging with great people, eating delicious food, relaxing at tropical beaches, crazy wildlife and chasing the Roo’s through the fields. Which later we found out was a bad idea and could gone very bad haha.

Shortly after arriving home we discovered our trip of a lifetime to Australia was also our first family vacation, Meagan was pregnant with our sweet baby girl!

Then I headed off to Virginia Beach for my very first Wavedaze where I had a blast hanging out with all the east coasters and also got to compete in the Krash Nationals where I took home first place.

A minor setback to the year happened when I went too big practicing in Oceanside with the Osidecrew. I ended up in the ER with a broken and dislocated ankle. I ended up fracturing my Talus bone in three different spots as well displacing the bones. They set the dislocation back into place that night, then surgery the next morning. Put 3 screws in my Talus, scraped out bone fragments, cut out all the dead cartilage between the ankle and tib/fib then drilled holes in the bones trying to promote scar tissue to grow to replace the cartilage. This kept me off my feet and out of the water for the rest of the year.

While I was laid up I had some time to do some thinking about the most important things in my life. So a few weeks after surgery, during the gender reveal for our baby and right after we found out we were expecting a girl I dropped to my knee and proposed. She said “Yes” and our wedding is set for June 11, 2016.

On Thanksgiving day, after turkey dinner, we went to the hospital to deliver our baby girl. On November 27th at 6:24 pm Damzel Brissy Bright made her big entrance into the world.

I’m rehabbing my ankle at the physical therapists and the chiropractor 3-5 days a week, its been a long, tough road mentally and physically but I’m making good progress and I’m expecting a full recovery.

My 2015 Krash Predator sold a few months back and I’m currently working on a new build for 2016 which I plan to debut at the Daytona Freeride.

This year was a wild ride and I cant wait to see whats in store for 2016! Word is bond. See you on the beach!

Daytona Freeride 2015- Jake Bright

Well Daytona Freeride 2015 is in the books and man what an epic trip! My trip started out with towing our Krash and Burn trailer full of skis and supplies for the trip from the west coast. We headed out of sunny California and drove 40 hours straight, only stopping for gas along the way, through snow storms and all until finally we made it to La Playa resort the host hotel of this years Thrust Innovations Daytona Freeride.

My new Krash Industries Predator which was custom built and painted by Blowsion debuted this at the freeride and Wow, this boat is literally outa this world! With Gold glitter paint, deep purples and oranges accented by custom decals with crazy cosmic like graphics all set off with bright neon green sections and highlights! It all came together for a truly one of a kind paint job that I am honored to have on my ski. I was totally blown away when I feasted my eyes on my new surf weapon for the first time! Of course Blowsion completely surpassed my expectation on this build, every nut and bolt has been meticulously assembled and I couldn’t be any more stoked! I took it straight out and started airing it out and had nothing but a bilge line come loose, amazing build quality.

On this Predator I’m running the new Blowsion handle pole, with their revolutionary over the pivot steering system which is a must have. I went with a bigger power plant and jet pump, now running a Dasa 1000cc and a 148mm Skat track magnum pump. And of course it has all the Cold fusion parts and accessories you have to have for a solid surf ski.

I had a blast in Daytona riding and sharing waves with friends from all over the US and even a bunch of international riders! This year there was 100 more skis registered to ride and the beach was PACKED!! So many good riders out there, people were flying off waves and slashing apart lips left and right! Such a fun time for everyone on the water! Looking forward to doing it again next year! Cheers

Every year this event gets bigger and better. I had such a great time seeing and hanging out with all my freeride family. We had good size surf all weekend, with Sunday being the best weather and cleanest surf. What a great start to the season. Stay tuned for big things to come this year.

Daytona Freeride 2015- Jeff Bolte

Here are some more pics from the 2015 Daytona Freeride. We had a smooth trip down thru the night on Saturday and were met with decent surf and some sunshine Sunday morning. It was time to get the Freeride Preride underway! We got our 1st surfride in of the year and it was fun!t was great to start the year seeing teammates and friends on the beach and at the new host hotel, the LaPlaya. The 10th fl bar was a great meeting place and the king of the beach aquamoto race and surf and style awards were held up there too. I was honored to be in charge of getting the LM team rider care packs to them and the raffle items to Nick, all the boys and I were stoked as well as the lucky raffle winners too! Sunday had the best weather, the surf was clean and the sun was shining brightly. A great end to another Daytona Freeride. Can’t wait to see my Freeride family again at WaveDaze in April!
